Landscape fail

I was supposed to be painting a landscape last week, not a flower. Painting green is the worst, though - which makes no sense at all because green paint is just made of pigment and oil like every other paint, but that is how it is. 

Sat down to paint the heliconia and got all the green bits in the background out of the way before getting to the small section of red, and thought, ffs, for all that green, I could have just painted the landscape. And then I looked at the pictures on my phone.

I love the mountains, though. Will figure this out.

Side note - see the thin rail of stairs going up the mountain in the first picture? That is Stairway to Heaven (or Haiku Stairs), an old and mostly vertical trail that people trespass to get to (leading residents to booby trap their yards) and on which people slip and die, break their spines, commit suicide, or suffer fatal heart attacks. In the latest act of Darwinism, someone installed a trampoline at the top of the staircase. This is slightly better than the swing set which was set up to fling instagrammers off the mountain. Personally, I am in favor of people risking their own necks as stupidly as they want, but they should maybe add "hiking down to collect friends' bodies" to the adventurer's agenda, as it's not a very nice thing to do to the first responders.

Update on Mjolnir: still has terminal cancer. We’re going to surgically remove the tumor as much as possible to buy Gavin an extra year with his cat, though. (Well, the surgeon is. I gave myself a haircut last night and now my surgical credentials have been revoked.) A lot of feelings happening about this.
